Introduction

Introduction to Sold, by Patricia McCormick

Sold follows the story of Lakshmi, a poor Nepali girl from the mountains, as she leaves her family behind to work as a maid in the "city". Soon, however, Lakshmi finds herself sold as a sex slave in India. Life in the brothel is awful, but she uses hope and memories of a time lost to push through. Escape is impossible, until Lakshmi meets a strange American who hopes to turn the brothel leader in and rescue all the girls.

I chose this book because I thought it was very interesting how it is written in very short chapters, each about a page long. The writing style could be compared to poetry because it is phrased in short, descriptive sentences.
